Overworld encounters would work if the overworld was actually realistically sized. With this shit it's absurdly small so it's stupid. Have it in a larger world and reduce encounter rate to the point where you have to actively looking for a for them in nooks and crannies. Visual obstruction (trees, rocks, darkness) should be used for hiding and/or ambush).

It’s all about theatrics faggot. Now the world seems even smaller. Pokémon was almost like DND or something on GBC. The random encounters made it seem like you were wandering through a huge field or forest where any Pokémon might be, opposed to what it actually is, a patch of grass between trees you can’t cross that are about 4 of your body lengths wide. But now with the 3 Pokémon slapped on each route, now it absolutely looks and feels exactly what it is, a tiny strip of land with 5 monsters standing there. Immersion and imagination absolutely gone.

I doubted the removal of wild battles via rng grass patches, but seeing how the overworld Pokemon spawn and act it's still a surprise to find something. Now instead of waiting for a load screen between battle you get the surprise walking into a new area and chasing your target or having something rare spawn right in front of you. The surprise is still there, dude. It's just a bit different. Overworld encounters is one of the few things LGPE did right.

Maybe caves but no where else felt like that. If anything their biggest mistake was lack of enviromental interaction. Even previous games had ferrothorns hanging on ceilings and pokemon on honey trees. If they make pokemon interact with overworld objects or interact with other pokemon by scaring them off or inviting them then they would be taking steps in the right direction.

There's going to be an 8 second delay regardless because the game will load, unload and reload all the assets needed for that wild encounter 9 times in a row for no reason other than the fact that GameFreak is a bunch of incompetent bastards.

But LGPE's methods of overworld encounters are shit too
I stand by what I believe 100% when I say that B2W2's Hidden Grottos have been the best possible use of encountering rare Pokemon yet in the series. A hidden nest you that would you could miss if you weren't paying attention, that also gives you a rare Pokemon? That's a real cause for surprise and wonder. RNG encounters will never meet that, anyone who doesn't think this isn't just foolish, they simply don't understand game design.

LGPE aren't even close to perfect, but this is one aspect where I see no problem. The feeling of seeing them in the overworld is both more immersive and provides nearly the exact same feeling as wild encounters did but without a need for repels or running away hundreds of times.

Random encounters are fucking shit, putting Pokemon in the overworld was a long needed step into the right direction. Now they just have to make the map multiple times as big and actually let the Pokemon spawn in places that arent just in the middle of the fucking road.
Put Pidgeys on tree branches. Let random rocks be hidden Geodudes. Make Ferrothorn actually be clinging to the ceiling of caves.
Imagine seeimg a Seviper and a Zangoose fight each other in the wild. This is the direction Gamefreak has to go, especially now that the times of hardware limitations are over.

They're both RNG.
Random Encounters require you to run around until you find the thing you want, while Overworld Encounters require you to sit in one spot until the thing you want poofs into existence or waddles onscreen.
The only difference is that the latter method can fuck you over because even if you use the best possible Catch Rate Modifiers other than a Master Ball (Berry, Ultra Ball, Dual-Excellent Throw), the thing you want can still break out effortlessly and then immediately run away with no means to prevent it or know when it will happen, forcing you to sit on your ass and wait for the next of that thing you want to poof into existence or waddle onscreen as you hope to catch it this time, if not you repeat the process until success.

I agree desu. It seems like pokemon is still in the stage that a lot of other franchises went through ages ago, in the transition between an abstracted 2D world and a more realistic 3D world.
When models become larger, spaces have to become larger too to maintain the same sense of scale - LGPE didn't do this, so it feels cramped.
I really hope GF focuses on making larger, more open areas to complement their larger models for the next mainline games.

In all honesty, overworld encounters will NEVER work in Pokemon unless GF goes full Breath of the Wild in terms of the vastness of the map. Which we all know will never happen unless they cut out literally all the other content. If not, even a minor expansion in world scale won't be enough to alleviate the crampedness of LGBT.

Roaming Pokemon should stay as random encounters, they're the only surprise worth keeping. The other Pokemon can appear in the overworld for all I care.

The main issue is that even with Let's Go's vast;y different capturing mechanics, it still boils down to the roll of a die at the end of it. The capturing mechancis should be entirely based on skill now.
