It's always been said that the evolutionary branching was a result of genetic instability which kind of implies that things aren't really *supposed* to happen that way, and it hardly marginalizes any of the other evolutions. I think it would be kind of interesting to see a very high-level normal type "natural" evolution that would take some effort to get, even if it was just a bigger, more combat-viable version of the previous form. It adds more choices and more diversity to the line and a little bit of extra "world building" aspects too for autistic appeal.
