Fire starter was cool but I love the Cyndaquil line so no thanks, plus the last form of the beta one sucks big time.
Water starter is literally my mom's Neopet.
Grass starter was Chikorita and Bayleef is Chikorita's best stage so wanting to get rid of that is also retarded.

I love how only the Chikorita line (mostly) stayed in tack. I think that's a testament to their design. I would have taken bear over Cyndaquil though.

Beta fire and water starters are the blandest designs out of the beta (possibly some of the most boring Pokemon designs ever) and an amazingly low step down from Kanto starters.

The most likely explanation is that it was part of a scrapped evolutionary line that had been 2/3rds replaced by the time of the beta. Notice that Chicorita feels more 'finished' than either Kusu or Honeguma.
