Still no 3D pokemon game with this animation quality.

THIS SHIT CAME OUT IN 2006 and the demo came out in 2005. How come they couldnt have this with the switch. We only have 151 Pokemon as well to bother with yet LGPE uses the fucking 3DS engine.

Anyway, the reason the game came out as it did was that it was rushed to meet the Japanese Wii launch. If it had another year, it could have been great, but it definitely was a subpar product compared to earlier console ventures by Genius Sonority. Same major staff in the credits as in the Stadium games and Orre games.

The worst part is that with the current system for how we do video games, we legit don't need another game. All we need is Pokémon Stadium EX. They can patch in Pokémon over time. Not only that, but they can use it as a third screen to their own VGCs, make them look spectacular while giving the players their privacy. Then, as you release new generations, you patch the game to keep it rolling with all of the new updates.

It's flawless, simply, and easy to implement. You don't even have to hold the Pokémon stats in game. You just have to let the players bring in their own Pokémon which then dictate their stats, and the single player mode can be updated slowly over time.

The only downside to this is it requires semi-competent people programming it, and you can't sell two/three versions of it because it's too efficient.

Battle Revolution actually did have later versions that were never made publicly available. There's tournament footage from around 2009 where they use Battle Revolution for the audience to watch while the players each use their DS to input commands, and the version they're using has been updated to include Platinum content like Lucas and Dawn's second design. This means that it most likely had Rotom's new forms, Shaymin Sky Forme, and Giratina Origin Forme programmed included.

Oh, I forgot to mention that Monolith Soft made X with a tiny budget, and a staff less than half the size of Game Freak's. Even Xenoblade 2 is better than recent Pokemon outings, and it's rough saying that Pokemon is currently one of the worst RPG franchises on the market. Ys VIII was really fucking refreshing, and I'd take even Tales of Zestiria over Gen 6 and 7 any day of the week.

It's a very divisive game within the series because of it being far more open than many people would've liked, and thus the main plotline isn't as deep or intricate as it could be. Though that doesn't take into account that the lore, sidequests, and worldbuilding are some of the deepest in any game this millenium. It's also brutally difficult compared to most other RPGs this decade, especially compared to post Gen-5 Pokemon. Bosses have huge KD ratios. Some nearly have as many wins as they have deaths. Remember, all wins/losses to tyrants are recorded as long as you're connected to the internet, so that's how you get tyrants like pic related with 6 kills for every death they have.

He's talking about Xenoblade X, a JRPG by Monolith Soft that had so much more work, passion, and content put into it compared to any recent Pokémon title. Unfortunately, like any great JRPG that doesn't have Pokémon as its title, it only sold a fraction of any Pokémon game.

Monolithsoft shat out Xenoblade 2 in two years and it was this massive story driven rpg with pretty good gameplay. They have minimal budget and a shorter development time and develop more ambitious games than gamefreak. LGPE is an embarrassment for GF, I'll wait to see how Gen 8 looks but damn something has gone wrong at GF these last few years, and I liked Sun and Moon when it came out.

It honestly makes you wonder if something outside of GF is holding them back.

I really doubt it. As a whole, Nintendo's lineup for the switch is phenomenal, and I can't imagine the big N would push GF to release games when they went a console generation without releasing Zelda. GF just a) doesn't give a shit anymore and b) typically hires inexperienced employees who can't really bring much to the table on their own

I vaguely recall there being some tension over Pokken launching on arcades for more than a year before the Wii U, and Pokemon GO released before Nintendo made any offical statement about other IPs breaking into the mobile market

I think the biggest thing is the annual releases, which must come from gamefreak “internally” but is clearly a result of stockholder and/or board pressure.

Not sure exactly how big of a factor this is, but any game as big as pokemon is basically gonna have to be done at least a month or two before release right? There’s a lot of end-development bug testing, it has to go through ratings boards, advertisers need all relevant material, etc.

If they go straight into the next game (which is very probable) then they might still end up with a year of development time, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they have less than that. A competent team could still do more than they are with, say, 8 months because of how many resources get reused. But this kind of rushed development is probably a factor.

For LGPE a bunch of new people were brought on right? Team management is HUGE for game development and a lot of people being shuffled around in a business can seriously fuck things up.

It also makes you wonder how many of those new hirees are programmers. Wouldn’t surprise me if they mostly get artists or something. How much development time just goes into designing a region and 150ish new mons? You know that kind of thing is gonna have to go through a bunch of different committees before getting a pass.

I’m not gonna give GF a pass here because smaller studios have managed more with less, but there’s no way corporate involvement isn’t fucking stuff up. You know annual releases aren’t something the devs are ever gonna push for, at least.

That's actually a common misunderstanding. Game Freak made Gold and Silver without Iwata's help... in Japanese. The thing is, Iwata was absolutely instrumental in getting it to play outside Japan without forcing everyone to buy a Game Boy Color (though most people did). They were Game Boy games with GBC enhancements, which had a 1 MB size limit. Red and Green and the other Gen I games were 512 KB, and the localized versions were all 1 MB since languages that use the Latin alphabet take up significantly more space than Japanese text. Every single letter is a byte, and 1 MB is 1,048,576 bytes. In a text-heavy game like a JRPG, you lose that real estate fast, hence the need for the international games to use the largest cartridge size.

Gold and Silver, on the other hand, were already 1 MB in Japan. There was no way you could increase that size without making them GBC exclusive games, which would cut out the entire regular Game Boy audience. But Iwata stepped in and managed to figure out compression methods that let localization teams fit Latin alphabet languages onto the cartridge. He did not make it so Kanto could fit in the games. As you can see from the beta ROM, Kanto was already planned to be included. However, this wasn't Iwata's first experience with Pokémon. He had previously helped with the very first Pokémon Stadium that was exclusive to Japan. In the span of a weekend, he managed to study the battle system for the Game Boy games and port the entire thing over to the N64.

Gateway Colosseum lets you permanently switch out one of your rental Pokemon that you used for one used by your opponent after each battle. One can, potentially, assemble a team of their favorites this way. But it's fucking retarded that there's no pool of rentals to choose from, to where I had to go and create my own in the DS games.

No, I of course had the games to go with it, but as someone who had both Stadium 2 and PBR, Stadium 2 was definitely the better package. The Stadium games even had gift Pokémon, with the first Japanese one offering a surfing Pikachu, the Japanese Stadium 2 offering multiples of all finite choice Pokémon (starters, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, fossils, etc.) from Gen I and the surfing Pikachu in the international Pokémon Stadium, and Stadium GS (Stadium 2 internationally) offering some Pokémon with moves they couldn't learn along with item transferring which can completely open up Gen I games.

And minigames are fun, but what was truly impressive was the Trainer school that actually acted as a major information resource for Gold and Silver.

Hey Anon, I feel the exact same way. I watched and emulated 4K upscale all of the details and animation quality from a 2006 game, then looking at Pokemon let's go and I feel like it could have been released right alongside that game. Funnily enough, I mentioned this on a Pokemon let's go post on le epic Reddit and got downvoted badly while I had numales left and right saying that the game isn't marketed to me and I'm just being an asshole because I'm just trying to nitpick a game that other people are enjoying so why am I complaining, but I feel you op

Game Freak, Creatures, and Nintendo own TPC together. TPC can't force one of it's owners to do anything and Game Freak owns more of TPC than Nintendo does (unless you factor in the fact that Nintendo also owns part of Creatures and then you're just getting into technicalities which are likely meaningless in practice).

Nintendo has kept offering to help them over the years and Game Freak has turned it down every time. They can't force them to do anything.
