Ensemble cast and she's probably got the most screentime among the rest of the cast. I mean it's obvious they favour Lilie's story, but they do insinuate Lana has romantic interest in Ash which is more than with Lillie (who seems to view Ash as more a role model/platonic best friend). Interestingly enough, it's not the first time a water specialist had an attraction to Ash. Least this time out though her fans aren't near as cancerous as the initial girl's.

Dude, they still remind people of Serena even after two years after she left outside the anime, and I wouldn't say never appearing again either. The 4kids rewriting made it seem like there was more even though the original was doing what they're doing with Lana.

Serena hasn't been mentioned in the show itself at all. The audience that's watching now doesn't even know who she is. She may as well not even exist anymore.

Every series gets a completely new audience. The kids watching SM haven't seen XY.

The show's producers have explicitly stated that this is the case and that each new series is created for an entirely new audience because they know that kids outgrow the show, stop watching, and get replaced by new kids.

As for the anime, as an example Misty wasn't mentioned for a good while until just recently (relatively speaking to series). The only reason she and Brock have even been brought up in the anime is because of all the wanking this gen has done to KANTOOOOOO.

It's not Lana getting Eevee that made people upset, it's all the marketing Eevee got making it seem like it would become part of the main cast and become a major character in the current arc.

If they hadn't made those Eevee shorts or placed in the front of the new poster, no one would have minded. But they hyped this Eevee up as being "special".
