It's one of the most cucked types in general. Just horribly bad offensively and always sucks in game if it isn't for a second actually good type being slapped on there. Have played through a game with Chikorita, Treecko or Snivy? Blergh.

Fuck I hate this. Literally every Grass type should have access to Stun Spore, Sleep Powder, Leech Seed and Synthesis. And don't give me the "it has no flowers so the powder moves don't fit thematically" bullshit. Tangela, Exeggcute and Bellsprout all get Sleep Spore. Why? Because back in Gen 1 Game Freak already knew that as Grass types they'd be shit without it. Spreading status is the entire point of Grass Pokemon, what with it's offensively bad offensive typing and at least somewhat decent resistances.

They should just add a sleep clause desu like Smogon does. They had one in official Gen 1 singles, which is probably where their hate for Sleep Powder originated. Maybe it was Gen 2 too, where they foolishly doubled down on their own idiocy and gave the best Pokemon in the game a reliable sleep move in Lovely Kiss.

In doubles maybe, I don't know a lot about the meta. Definitely not in singles though. Mega Venusaur outranks normal Venusaur (which isn't even listed on Smogons viability rankings) by a massive amount both in OU and Battle Spot Singles.

Venusaur and its mega easy gg

In game Smugleaf is pretty garbage but other than that, yeah. You have stuff like Tapu Bulu, Tangrowth and Ferrothorn too, though the latter is mostly as good as it is because of the Steel typing.

The Bulbasaur line was the only one that wasn't left in the dust by the other starters. Snivy eventually got its hidden ability years after BW was out, where it was clearly the worst of the three. Both Turtwig and Treecko were good but not as good as the other two. Chespin is popular but its evolutions are far and away the least popular starter Pokémon. Rowlett is also very popular but gets absolutely shat on in game, got a flavor hidden ability, and has another Pokémon introduced in the same generation that fills its niche.

Grass as a type is worse than the other two and less flashy, so it tends to get the shaft.

Chesnaught is really underrated though. Spiky Shield and Leech Seed is FUN.

Definitely the most underrated type. Venusaur, sceptile, torterra, serperior and decidueye are my favourite fully evolved starters of their respective generations.
