They'll always taint them with a new gimmick excuse like Megas or regional formes or whatever they've thought up this time. We'll get sort-of-evolutions for things like Arcanine and the Hitmons, because they're recognizable genwunner mons and for some reason that's all they can trust themselves to sell.
The BEST case scenario would be regular ol' cross gen evos, OP, from the BOTTOM of my heart that's all I want. Bring things like Kecleon and Carnivine into the spotlight and give them a fighting chance to use their cool designs and unique aspects. But I have no hope for that.
What I do dare hope for, though, is somewhere in-between. Megas were alright, Alolan formes are... okay... but if they ever sack up and just make a whole new batch of trade-evo items I'd be so happy. Nothing is stopping them from making a Fairy-type and Steel-type stone, locking them behind the new mechanic so they can still peddle that, and then passing out evolutions. I can see MAYBE them pulling something of that manner.
