>>37174371>>37173917I honestly feel like this was intentional. There's cameo appearances of all three of these Pokémon, including sidequests you must specifically acknowledge them or even transfer them from other games for rewards.
Meaning they knew about the thematic relevance of the Pokemon, and intentionally omitted them from the games, instead encouraging players to think about it and bring them to Alola themselves.
So in a way, I guess it's kind of cool that they avoided the cliche's and opted to reward players with fanservice for thinking about these things instead. But on the other hand, it would have just been nice to have them too.
