Alternatively, kids have friends and tradeback with their friends.

That's the easy to understand method for kids that don't know about secondary ability effects and/or don't know how to chain Poliwhirls for a King's Rock with a Thief user.

You clearly haven't touched the games since gen 5 or later because now you can type in the names of pokemon you haven't seen yet to request for trade as long as you spell it right.

SOS Chaining is absolute monotony no matter who's playing.

I liked how the Friend Safari gave you a flat increase on the odds of finding better Pokemon (Shiny, HA, higher IVs).

One of the things XY did right desu. Getting a bunch of HA Pokemon in one place easily is fucking great. And it added a social aspect too since you're trading friend codes and all.

GF don't want or expect you to grind for this and waste all your time finding a Politoed. If a Pokemon has 1% of appearing on a route, you can expect one in a hundred players to find it while they're playing through the game. Then that one player can trade this rare Pokemon with their friends and have a neat little experience that wouldn't be possible if literally everyone can just walk into the grass and capture one without effort. It's supposed to foster trade between the player base, the same reason version exclusives exist.
