For me, Skarmory is a gen 3 Pokemon. It just feels so much more natural than remembering he was in Johtto too.

He's actually right though, you meet Skarmory in a more desertic area in gen 3 which fits the volture theme while in gen 2 it's just there in a normal ass optional route

I remember catching a ton of johto pokes in emerald at the battle frontier
between that and the Gamecube games being filled with johto pokes it was possible to complete the national dex in any gen 3 game

Understandable tbdesu, Hoenn’s safari zone is really out of the way and forgettable. Only reason I went there was because I found out you could catch Heracross there and the expansion of it in the Emerald post game

That's because gen 2 had shit mon distribution. Gen 3 was the first time you could actually reasonably catch a Skarmory.

In gen 3 you only have Kanto and Hoenn, so anything not in FRLG is a Hoennmon for them.

While I agree the Pokémon distribution could be better (duh), I remember being determined to get every "strong" 'mon Mt Silver. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but I thought Mt Silver was this super hyped area in-game.
