If you want to start a new hobby/job/skill how fucking ENTITLED do you have to be to say “THIS SHOULD BE SIMPLER IM NEW AND NEVER SUPPORTED THIS BEFORE BUT ITS MINE NOW”.

What happened to the desire to practice and get better, to learn and strive to be the best.

The majority of the fanbase doesn't care about the actual gameplay aspects of the series anymore. They're only interested in the cutesy stuff.
So long as things like petting and following pokemon are around, the battles only need to be minimally functional for them to be pleased.

He isn't saying removing those elements makes playing competitively better.
He is saying not having to worry about those elements while raising a competitive team is better. And it's not like the majority of people playing competitively on cart would disagree, just see how prevalent injecting is, for this very reason.

Granted, the solution should rather be to make manipulating EV's, natures and abilities on existing pokemon easier, rather than flat out removing them.
And you know, IV's still exists, which is the most complicated and tiresome part of raising competitive pokémon by far.

I mean, EVs always existed. In Gen I and I, it was stat experience and was far less user friendly to calculate, though it did allow you to fill every stat. But even then, it took until the 3DS era for them to become visible, and you could still miss it completely. Plus it didn't even give number values. You never had to focus on EVs to beat the game. Abilities either. For the vast majority of players, it's a little bit of text that occasionally shows up in battle.

There seems to be this bizarre idea that regular Pokémon is exclusively for hardcore competitive fans, but they're a minority and always have been. I've barely touched things like the Battle Tower or multiplayer. The series has barely evolved past the point where you just need to mash A through battles and win with your overleveled starter and box Legendary.

You can streamline the content and make it less daunting to look at without outright removing it or hurting it.

I have seen this pop up in discussions related to LGPE too, and I am honestly just confused as fuck when people say "modern pokémon is so niche". Sure the mainline games don't sell as well as gen I, but none have sold less than 7 million copies or so. They have a wide as fuck appeal, and if literal preschoolers can pick up a random title then so can you.

If you can’t handle the competetive aspect of the games, either go back and play the old games or don’t play.

Nothing about abilities, IVs or egg moves is hard enough to warrant a complete abandonment of them.

From a competitive standpoint IV's serve next to no purpose. On the top of my head Trick Room and Foul Play are the only reasons you wouldn't have all 31's.

Removing them would make Stakataka complete shit because it wouldn't be able to boost its attack with Beast Boost. There are also a few Pokemon that are slightly better with 29 HP IVs, but situations where that actually makes a difference are pretty rare.

They even said that Gen 8 is for hardcore fans, that's why they made LGPE for the people who don't have the tiniest amount of brain to figure out shit that takes 5mins.
Gen 8 is our game, they're not going to take these things out just to please the lazy people who can't figure out simple things when they have their toddlers LGPE for that.

If they took these things out of the mainline/core games, there would definitely be an uproar by real fans, I could see a lot of people ditching the franchise if they did, I for one would, I'm already getting there.

The thing is, the "hardcore" fraction of the consumers is not that big. LGPE still sold well despite being loathed by many hardcore players. And that's not because it managed to cater to genwunners who hasn't played since gen I. It's because Pokémon already has a enormous casual consumer base who would still buy the games even if abilities or held items were permanently removed.
If gen VIII ends up taking more from LGPE than we currently expect I don't think see a much larger uproar than what LGPE created.

I don’t get this. What is so hard to understand about them? Most items and abilities just do 1 thing, with the most complicated abilities being consistent.
Like Mold Break is one of the more complicated abilities, and all it does is really is ignore defensive abilities, which isn’t hard to understand. I can maybe understand EVs, but not abilities and items.
On top of that, all three of these things barely affect ingame playthroughs

This is something I notice years ago, the pokemon community is too bigs, many groups of people want completely diferent things in the pokemon games, there no way to please all this people, and this not a exageration.

So, I think that dividing the core games into two different types of games, is the best way to keep massive comsumer base with very different tastes satisfy.

The nostalgiafags and casual get their let's go, and the hardcore and competitive gamers get the regular games that actually have content and more complex mechanics.

The people who liked LGPE don't want a game requires dedication from their part, they just want and easy time killer that reminds them of their childhood.

I don't think you can make a game a "challenge" because the option of grinding is so predominant and ai team design would be a mess because it would be hard to balance "being a threat" with "being fun to play against" (and the fact that eventually they will end up intentionally or not put dickish teams in), people just going "fuck it" and spoiling the game to be prepared and items always being a factor. Not really. I hated that they think the post game is only for preparing for competitive, but I don't want them to take out things that people like about the game. This is immensely funny to me because while LGPE has a slow, limited, unfun and retarded meta, it does have a meta. one in which your skill in mindgames and battle flow will still be important.

You won't instantly become good at competitive just because the mechanics have been dumbed down. Either you'll get chewed by veteran players or you'll need to put in about as much time and effort as you would need to learn a regular Pokemon game.

Giving some "uniqueness" to similar pokemon I'd say.
Salamence would be a better Dragon Dancer than Dragonite all the time thanks to its higher speed.
With abilities, I can choose between Multiscale, a safer way to setup, or Moxie to snowball faster.
It's not the best exemple since they're both outclassed by Zygarde but you get the idea.

That "third dimension" becomes completely pointless the instant that somebody gets a better ability. Or, in the example above, Dragonite became useless as soon as Aeriliate became a thing.

And ironically Aeriliate is the kind of ability that doesn't adds any strategic value besides "lawl more damage".

Diversity via learnsets and stats are much better than abilities, just compare DP's Dragonite and Salamence. One had Outrage and another had higher special. Suddenly both are perfectly viable and filled completely different roles despite being so similar.

Yes, but the more levels of complexity you have, the more options you have, If Salamence is just better than every other dragon flying, then it invalidates the rest.

Dragonite was UU in gens 1-3, and only became OU in gen 4 because Salamence got banned to ubers - it wasn't until gen 5 when Dragonite got Multiscale and it actually became good to use, on par with Salamence. It's Mega Salamence that tipped the scale again, and with those stats, they could have given him Truant and he'd still be uber

It was OU in DP due to being the only one with Dragon Dance and Outrage (besides Rayquaza obviously)

Adding even more irony, the instant that Salamence got Dragonite's toy it became uber, all thanks to his ability.

there are plenty of other sets to use aside from DD. choice band multiscale dnite was a monster lead that could spam outrage from the get go while scarf moxie mence was an excellent lategame cleaner, t-wave/roost/d-tail/sub dragonite was a really fucking annoying shuffler, etc.

But even the public this was aimed at was robbed. These games have less content than FRLG for $60. Masuda also mentioned for people who couldn't get Go because they didn't have phones... then put Metan only obtainable through Go. They don't even know who this is for.
