No, if that was the case I would have bought LGPE.
The thing that keeps me shamefully hooked is the pokémon themselves and the constant stream of new ones, which unfortunately means that I probably will buy gen VIII no matter how bad the rest of the game turns out.

Yeap, Pokemon is rich enough with intricacies that that's what has always appealed to me more than the games. In fact, the games are pretty unappealing to me. But the world has a lot of whimsey and a surprising amount of depth that keeps me engaged with it, even if a lot of that is speculative or headcanony. Helps that I find the Pokemon themselves really appealing compared to other monster franchises, too.

I just beat gens 1 and 2 again, 100%'d both, now I've moved onto gen 3 and it's such an amazing upgrade. I'm looking forward to getting to gen 7 and dropping it.

Competitive peaked in Gen 2, dropped in Gen 3, then peaked again in Gen 4.
Now it's just Sub-Legendary Circlejerking:Guest Starring Intimidating Felines because of rampant powercreep that GameFreak can't undo without mass rebalancing, and that's beyond their expected effort (see:nonexistent effort).

Yes, also to literally almost anything I do.

I mostly listen to 80's, 90's and early 00's music, I just got a 360 to play Halo and Halo 2, bought a bunch of old Yu-Gi-Oh! decks just for the heck of it, and keep buying games hoping that they'll bring back the joy I used to have as a child/teen.

Not anymore. The past few years were an eye opener and I honestly don't see myself coming back to the games, unless they're something incredible, unlike anything Gamefreak has ever done, but we all know what are the odds of that happening.
I haven't even played a Pokemon game in nearly 2 years.
Came back to /vp/ only to check how heavy a mark LGPE has left on the community - it's pretty entertaining.

But I still feel cheated out on what Pokemon could've been due to Gamefreak's incompetence and mishandling of the whole series.

Doing nuzlockes really brought me back properly. It's more engaging than just playing normally, even if it means you don't always get to use what you want to use. I've played more Pokemon in the past 5 years nuzlocking than almost ever before.
