Most people who call this shit pretentious don't do it comparing to other manga, but to other Pokémon stuff. And yes, clamoring it for being "edgy" for a Pokémon adaptation is a very pretentious action.

I never said everything Pokémon-related has to be child-friendly, just that it's a really pretentious thing to clamour something just because it's "edgy".

Plus, people can get good arguments on why PokeSpe is garbage without bringing that up, like this chain for example.

It's still calling things out about the manga's actual quality. More than many bother admitting about it. We could go on with other stuff like X's everything, the entire HGSS and ORAS chapters, SM being rushed, Sun's dumb backstory, Yellow being a special snowflake, Emerald being nigh-impossible to like and so on.
