Gen 5 though, brought Weather Wars, tons of broken abilities, and made hitting +130 in a base stat common in offensive stats.
I would unironically say Gen 6 and Gen 7 actually had more balanced metas with Weather being nerfed alone. Mega and Z-moves can be powerful, sure, but if you removed the other team’s weather setter, you basically won since your entire team got an endless consistant boost that often was better than what Megas would get. Imagine if Mega Swampert could still get perma Rain and how fucked things in OU would be.
Not only that, but also things like Clefable being OU at all despite it not having a single stat above 100 (in contrast to Gen 5, where everything has at least 1 stat above 100) really shows how fucking broken weather was.
