Because you'd be wrong.
Truly thinking about it I've had plenty of fun since 2014 but almost none of that fun has been because of Pokémon even when it was the main thing I was playing 8+ hours a day.
As of OR/AS I was mostly playing it out of habit and because I couldn't imagine not playing it after, at the time 16 years and about 58K hours played, not because I was enjoying the shit sandwich they'd plopped in front of me.
Gen 7 made it plenty clear though in almost every way possible by going out of their way to release an incomplete beta of a game for an anniversary no one asked for a game for to begin with and not only not really doing anything better, but actively making things worse that they had just made more fun in Gen 6.
If you honestly liked what the series has been then you're delusional if you think you've actually had fun since 2014.
