I decided to replay Fire Red, but to spice it up I decided I would only use Pokemon I have never used before, and/or have disliked in the past.
Poison types have been notoriously shit until the most recent gens, so I struggled with Arbok for a good while, but TM's made it bearable. I like it now.
I never liked Normal or pink Pokemon much but Cleffable became such a powerhouse.
Parasect carried my team starting in Mt. Moon, when I ditched my starter. Paras was basically my starter.
I would always pick Alakazam for sheer power, or Slowbro for the dual typing, but Hypno was a pleasant surprise, as was Marowak who'd normally be a Dugtrio or Golem.
Hitmonchan was an odd choice, I originally wanted a Dewgong or Lapras for the Water/Ice, but Cleffable learned Water Pulse, and Hitmonchan could learn Ice Punch, so I went with the boxing mon. It also gave me a Fire type move for coverage.
