Heracross was always good despite its lack of stab moves and Misdreavus was basically Gengar-lite not to mention it was the best user of Perish Trapping

Pineco and Ursaring are shitmons ingame. I know Forretress has been a staple in competitive, but in game its worthless.

Heracross' movepool was awful, and with Gastly available so early in gen 2, while Misdreavous was all the way in Kanto made her too shitty.

Tyrogue was meant to be in baby shit, mistake by me. Ledian has shitty stats and movepool, but looks neat to me.

Gen 2 was basically an expansion pack for Gen 1.

Gen 2 is severely overrated and there’s a lot of nostalgia as the source of it because people go “oh it has two regions this game is huge” when in reality, the Johto segment ends in a few hours, before your Pokémon even reach Lvl 45, and then Kanto takes over. Which means if Kanto wasn’t there, these would be the shortest games in the franchise

Because the new Pokemon were made arbitrarily rare compared to the old ones. See Rattata being in the encounter table for Johto 245 times while Sentret is in 6 times. See no trainers in the game using Politoed, Aipom, Sunkern, Sunflora, Yanma, Misdreavus, Wobbuffet, Pineco, Dunsparce, Gligar, Scizor, Heracross, Mantine, Skarmory, Porygon2, Smeargle, Blissey, Larvitar, Pupitar, Tyranitar, or any of the babies.

Gen 2 was designed as a follow-up sequel to Gen 1, rather than going with the paradigm first seen in Gen 3 of each set of games being a sort of "soft reset" unconnected to anything else.

Ursaring is only bad in Gold, because you can't get Teddiursa before after Blackthorn.
In Crystal you can get it much earlier and it's a great team option.

Say what you will about the Johto Dex, how many of them are Gen 1 evos or one-offs, and the poor in-game distribution, but at least they actually designed the pokemon to integrate well into the fold, along with the original 151.

With generations after this, the focus has constantly been on how the new pokemon can one-up the older ones, resulting in further and further runaway power creep.

Gen 2 has literally the best monster design in the franchise. Kill yourself. The new Pokemon being rare was a neat idea and it made it seem like they really were new species just being discovered instead of Gen 3+ just being "new species because it's a foreign region". FRLG followed the pattern with the way Oak mentions Johtomon in the Sevii Islands as newly migrated. Granted it was kind of shitty for some new mons to be Kanto-only or locked to late game areas but the feeling was still cool. It was like you were really discovering new species for the first time ever as opposed to simply seeing already known Pokemon.

Sure its "cool," but relegating all the new Pokemon to what is basically post game is total bullshit since all you can do with them is grind against low level wild Pokemon. The only one I give a pass is the Larvitar line since its a pseudo, even though I still hate that the only thing left to fight with one is Red.

Yeah the execution was awful but the simple addition of more rematches would've helped out. It isn't like there were absolutely no rematches, though, however randomly they came about. For the time it was I suppose the best they could do and the only reason the distribution felt shitty in Gen IV is because by then Cyndaquil through Celebi were a decade old and the discovery factor was gone. A future game could attempt to pull the same stunt by having the region near to another and with the addition of a VS Seeker it would work wonderfully.
