>>37207207Funnily enough I just loaded up a speedrun to see if they take it or not.
Personally I like the breaking up of the map, far preferred to straight linear shots like Unova and even Kalos which just does a loop, and it does feel rather large because of it.
It also allows finding secrets like Seafoam Islands and powerplant to feel that much more exciting.
Hoenn probably has my favorite map though, really feels like the get the most use out of it.
And then when the second half opens up it feel like you just unlocked a new map entirely, and as long as you have repels the sea routes are amazing, or you know just diving.
I do wish there was more in them though, but finding regis was cool enough.
>>37207216That's actually pretty fucking clever, you can do that to skip SS. Anne/Cut too, right?
Wonder if there could be a "completed save file percent" run to see what that route would be like
>>37207225New Bark town is cool for also being close, and pallet has a surf route for Cinnabar, but something about it being an offshoot route near the first few routes feels so good.
Especially with the rival fight there too.
It's less a book ending deal of going back home and more seeing an eventual path you want to take on your early travels but you know you're not ready yet.
It's not hidden, you know the league is right there but you can't go yet.
I remember as a kid going to it every now and then with each new badge to see more of the route open up.
