This game failed to do it, because it pushes you to catch many times the same pokémon to get the candies and good stats, but then they didn't manage very well the possible level you could achive with your team.
It wasn't really tedious fighting wild pokémon, the only part of that was the randomness of encounters, and this happens in Pokémon LGPE too especially in caves with those fucking Onix spawning under your feet.
The perfect thing are the legendary battles in lgpe, maybe without some prestabilited time, and trying to make everything faster without transitions.
