Despite all the new changes for the worse, I would've bought this game if it had all the Pokemon. I like gen 1 but kanto is my least favorite region. But the nice graphics, the following Pokemon, eevee's voice, it all looks so appealing. If they ever make a patch for the rest of the Pokemon, I'll break down and buy it.

Yeah, if Kanto was full of new pokemon it would’ve been acceptable. FRLG already limited you to 151, this needed to be something fresh. When the games were first announced I was expecting new pokemon to be running around in the wild, which would’ve been a lot more exciting than a gen 1 port. I decided against buying a switch even though I’ve never skipped a pokemon game on release before, so I didn’t buy it and never intend to; I’ll probably pirate it after I hack a switch for 2019. Gen 8 could look like total shit and I still wouldn’t skip it, but don’t feel like I’m missing out here since this is literally a yellow port and FRLG are more playable

No, I didn't. The game is focused on catching Pokemon. So it's better to have a reasonable number of Pokemon to have an attainable goal of catching them all in the overworld instead of cluttering the game with 800 of the fucking things for no reason.

Disregarding that, since the focus is primarily on catching Pokemon as you say, while not directly tied to having Post-Gen 1 Pokemon, I find it unfulfilling that even well into the last stretch of the game, you're still seeing the same shit you've been seeing since they first appeared (Pidgey, Zubat, etc) with very little variety unless you decide to sit around for awhile just to get that low % spawn to happen.
It makes me feel like I haven't even made progress in the game to still see the same few Pokemon I've been seeing since anywhere between Route 1 and Mt. Moon, even though I'm at the League's Doorstep.
Even postgame isn't free from this, I'm STILL seeing Zubats fucking around in Cerulean Cave.

More Pokemon isn't "more content" because it doesn't actually add anything meaningful to the game. And yes, having more options in the game isn't always a good thing because having too many options leaves the game unfocused.

If there's already so many fucking combinations that no human will ever experience them all in their lifetime, then why not just strip down the variety of Pokemon down to its most marketable state?
Pikachu, the Charizard Line, the Eevee Line, Mewtwo, the Lucario Line and the Greninja Line.
We don't need anything else, we need to make sure people are able to experience every playthrough possible before they croak.

Are you kidding? While abilities may not add always amazing depth among mons of the same species, they make a HUGE difference in setting each Pokemon apart from each other and defining their playstyles. You want to take Protean from Greninja? Sap Sipper from Sawsbuck? Solid Rock from Rhyperior?

Also if you think EVs don't make a difference, I suggest you try VGC with that mindset.

It's fun so long as you know what you're getting into. Anyone expecting it to be like FRLG in terms of it being a top-tier Pokemon game is fooling themselves. That said the game straight up calls itself "a first Pokemon adventure for everyone!", meaning that it's intended to be a simplified version of the game meant for the post-internet, post-mobile young generation.

Honestly I'm glad it exists, because I strongly anticipate that GF will use future "Let's Go!" games to dump all their "beginning player" features from the mainline games into it, meaning the proper main games will be intended for veteran players from the get-go.

Of course I have just as much proof of that as other people have that LGPE will be the only Pokemon game ever made from now on. I guess we'll just have to wait to see who's right.

That's fine, I honestly don't think Game Freak intended it to be anything other than an introduction to Pokemon for today's kids who weren't even an itch in their dad's balls back when the original Gen 1 games came out.

But like, even if LGPE is a cut down version of regular Pokemon in terms of missing features, it's not actually incompatible with regular Pokemon. Combat especially is effectively the same in LGPE; there is nothing in LGPE that couldn't exist in the regular game with just some specific rules in place (ie no items rule).

Nintendo franchises? Name some.

So far, in my experience, at least when it comes to Nintendo franchises, when they've split a series into two to cater to two different needs, the devs continues to make games for both. Zelda, Mario, and Metroid are examples I can point out right away where the devs wanted to take it in a different direction but they didn't completely lock out the old style.

You’d be naive to think that Game Freak and Nintendo would continue to ignore the results of Pokémon Go and Pocket Camp. As I said before they have shown to be resistant to market trends in the past but have softened their stance on stuff like paid online and phone gaming.

I completely agree, and I really hope it sticks around this time.
But as things currently stand, these games are the only ones in the 3D era that have it. And for people who play these games more for the atmosphere than the difficulty or the grind, that carries an appeal.
