They are just going to pretend Birth of Mewtwo never happened, aren't they? It's the best story to come out of Pokémon but it's way too dark for an out of touch old man like Masuda.

The fact they're crediting Shudo for this seems to indicate they're keeping some of the original movie's plot intact.

They'll keep M1 and nothing else, all supplementary material that isn't related to M1 is getting axed.
It'll largely be the same movie in CG aside from Brock and Misty being replaced by yet another set of characters no one cares about, Meltan joining Mew in its shenanigans, Meltan evolving to fight Mewtwo, and then Mewtwo going Mega Mewtwo X/Some New Form at the climax.
