I had Pokemon Yellow as a kid, so I never played Red or Blue.
Having now played through nine Pokemon games (Yellow, Ruby, Emerald, LeafGreen, FireRed, Diamond, Platinum, Black, Black 2), I decided to try out the originals, so I got a copy of Pokemon Red and started to play it.
It's really fucking shit even compared to Yellow, let alone the later ones.
1) Pikachu learns much shitter moves in Red and Blue than it does in Yellow. It doesn't even learn Thunderbolt.
2) Charizard can't be taught Fly with the HM in Red and Blue like it can in Yellow. Is this a fucking joke?
3) You can't get any fighting type Pokemon before facing Brock in Red and Blue. In Yellow you can get Mankey from Route 22 before you face Brock, but in Red and Blue you can't. This is bad design, because if you pick Charmander as your starter, then it is IMPOSSIBLE for you have to a Pokemon that is super effective against Brock before facing him. EVEN WORSE - MANKEY AND PRIMEAPE DON'T EVEN LEARN **ANY** FIGHTING TYPE MOVES IN RED AND BLUE, APART FROM SEISMIC TOSS WHICH DEALS UNTYPED DAMAGE. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK WERE THEY THINKING?!?! In Yellow, of course, Mankey and Primeape DO learn a fighting type move in the form of Low Kick. Seriously, WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING when they made Red and Blue?
4) Here is another point very much connected to the last. You CAN get Nidoran (both male and female) before you fight Brock in Red and Blue, on Route 22. But Nidorans in this game don't learn Double Kick (which of course is super effective against Brock) until LEVEL FUCKING 43. WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING?! DID THEY THINK I'M GOING TO GRIND AND LEVEL MY NIDORAN UP TO LEVEL FUCKING 43 BEFORE TAKING ON BROCK?!?! Of course this is ANOTHER thing they have fixed in Yellow, with the Nidorans learning Double Kick at level 12.
5) Staryu and Starmie don't even learn any attacking Psychic type attacking moves despite Starmie being half Psychic type. What the fuck were they thinking?
