To be fair, physical attackers also generally get a better movepool, since GF is kind about giving lots of different pokemon access to physical-based attacks like earthquake, rockslide, brick break, etc even if they're not ground/rock/fighting type. But the special elemental attacks are often almost exclusively available to pokemon of that type. So it's a lot harder to get a decent movepool for a special sweeper. Again, with a few exceptions. Like the pseudolegendary dragons that can learn like every elemental special TM, because fuck you.

Ice needs to resist fairy and dragon and have an immunity to water. Part of the issue is they keep making ice types based on the archetype of "the slow, mightly glacier" but the type itself isn't built for tanking whatsoever. Weavile sees use because it's one of the few ice pokemon actually built with speed/offense in mind.

If this were back in 4th-5th gen I'd agree that Hail needs a buff, but weather has been nerfed into irrelevance anyway so there's little point.

I don't even really care too much about ice type, really. I just wish they would mix up the variety in terms of pokemon you encounter. I'm tired of all my in-game teams being very similar because of the way they distribute the pokemon. I never use any ice types because my team is already finalized by the time I get to an ice area.

This should've never been allowed. This single thing is what caused ice types to become next to useless. Why bother dealing with the baggage of being ice type when you can just use a really defensive bulky water type with ice beam instead? It also fucks over grass types badly because on paper grass types should have the upper-hand against water types, but every water type runs ice beam, so that goes out the window.

Too late to fix it now though.

Maybe offensively, but poison was still really good defensively. Only two weaknesses, psychic and ground. Guys with levitate like Weezing only had one weakness, as did Poison/Dark Drapion.

To be fair, like 95% of dark types were completely physically-oriented in their base stats, even back when it was a special type. So even though there's an almost complete lack of special dark moves, it hardly matters most of the time.

snarl - weak, hardly ever used in singles, but sometimes sees play in doubles since it hits both mons and lowers stats like icy wind

Chesnaught isn't too bad for a physical attacker considering it actually gets seed bomb. More or less if a physical grassmon doesn't get that, they're stuck with more or less nothing since i dont think Leaf Blade is very common. Physical water is more or less praying for a Waterfall HM, and Fire's shit outta luck if you dont like losing half your health from attacking

grass-type physical attacker works fine, usually. I have a much bigger issue with trying to make grass-type special attackers like serperior and sceptile to work. You get grass STAB and dragon pulse and... that's basically it.

The "elemental physical attacker" types that really get fucked over are electric and fire types. either the best you get is a shitty elemental punch/fang attack at 75/65 BP or you have a recoil attack that KOs yourself.

I remember Hoenn and Sinnoh especially being bad about the zigzagoons/bidoofs. I don't get it. Yeah, it's "realistic" to have trash mons everywhere, but that's not fun or interesting.

On the other hand, XY had almost the exact opposite problem. I like the variety of mons you could obtain and how every route had tons of different stuff, but it also fucked up the balance by making stuff like first-stage pseudolegendaries like bagon, deino, and dratini available really early on. There's gotta be a balance. Really powerful pokemon shouldn't be handed out like candy, but I also don't want to have to dig and grind for everything better than a rattata

There's gotta be a happy medium, for sure. Kalos literally had special patches of grass just to shove 4 more pokemon onto a route. Pseudos should be in optional areas as a reward for exploration, but not at a 5% rate in said area

It makes perfect sense for some of them like butterfree not being able to learn harden anymore since it just went into a metamorphosis. I think with shroomish it's someting similar in the sense that it turns into a kangaroo/dinosaur thing so it's not a mushroom just anymore, I guess? Pretty stupid in some cases anyways.

This IS balanced. They're garbage for 30+ (or 50 in Deino's case lmao) levels and then they become usable (not good, arguably only Gabite is good at the middle stage) and then they're strong at the endgame anyway.

By far the most broken early obtainable Pokemon is Hawlucha in USUM.

I never said I hated Diggersby, I think it's a riot to use and I'm glad they made an early route shitmon viable so it wasn't a waste of a Pokedex slot (like Gumshoos, Watchog or Furret are). I just wish it was cute.

I have a related story. Some years ago I managed to catch a shiny Poochyena in Diamond. I thought shiny Mightyena looked pretty cool, so I evolved it and started levelling it up. After a while I realized that it still hasn't learned crunch despite already being level 50. I looked up the learnset online and found out that, in gen 4, mightyena doesn't learn crunch AT ALL. Only Poochyena learns it at fucking level 53. So if you wan't to get the only useful move on Mightyena you can't even evolve it until it hits that level. The weirdest part is the fact that Mightyena learned it just fine in gen 3 but they had to change in the next gen for some reason.

Sure, there are the pseudos (and other pokemon like Aggron and Nidoking for some reason) that have really good movepools with access to everything from tbolt to surf. But then there are plenty of special attackers begging for more moves, while most physical attackers at least get the standard moves like rock slide, earthquake, various fighting moves, etc.

Most of the early-game mons, like the regional rodents/birds, have such uninteresting movesets in the long run that I don't even bother with them most of the time. Gen VI+ has been better about this, though.

Gen 2 Gligar. It doesn't get a ground move outside of EQ unless you 100% Stadium 2, and it doesn't get Wing Attack unless you get that same Gligar or breed specific pokemon but needing to breed to get STAB is already a bad sign

Level 3 in gen 3 it'll just have Growl. As for Kricketot, if a pokemon has to be taken to the center after every single fight because fucking BIDE is the only way it can deal damage, it's something you skip on

Any level 1 pokemon will need to go to the center after every battle, even if you have some good egg move on them that one-shot the opponent, they'll still outspeed you and hit you once and deal 90% of your life because you're level 1.

Take Down isn't a shitty version of Counter like Bide is. Either way, Beldum's one of those pokemon that's a pain to actually use ingame. I forget when it evolves, but having it around more or less means you're lugging around an exp sponge. At least Take Down has power I guess, but you'll be reaching for the rare candies the second it gets close to evolving

Beldum in Gen 7 at least evolves straight away. Metang isn't great but it's usable. Metagross is totally worth it in Alola since you it feels like you NEED a Steel type.
