no it's because gen 1-3 are solid designs made with real shapes whereas gens 5-7 are blobby scribbles.

Actually I like Gen 1 a lot because the Pokemon are on average more natural looking without so many vibrant high contrast primary neon colors.
That's not to say I don't like Pokemon from other gens but later gens feature more over the top legendaries, useless pikaclones, and silly colors.
