>>37228536This is what a lot of people who never played baton pass meta say. The problem isn't that baton pass is unbeatable. The problem is that not every team is baton pass. This has lead to the following scenario in ever generation:
Baton Pass beats Standard
Anti Baton Pass beats Baton Pass
Standard beats Anti Baton Pass
Obviously it's not a 100% win or lose scenario, but you could generally tell who would win just from team preview. Playing a 5v6 against a standard competitive team isn't unwinnable, but it's enough of a disadvantage to make a lot of players choose to forfeit turn 1 in order to regain lost elo faster. Likewise a standard player could try to heavily pressure a baton pass team but a single turn could lead to a snowball effect where the battle spirals out of control.
"just use haze" would be an acceptable counterargument if there were reliable hazers for every team composition that also had reliable matchups against all variants of baton pass.
