Fossils are one of the few cases were the designs objectively got better in newer generations

I'd say they've always consistently been good designs. Kabutops and Omastar are still two of my favorite looking pokemon.
Cradily looks pretty derpy but I still like it, and Armaldo looks like a stupider version of Kabutops tbqh.
Archeops would be great if not for Defeatist. Not sure why they cucked the bird with that.

Tyrantrum is really fun, I'll admit. Don't know if he's my ~favorite~ fossil, but it's definitely up there. I'd still like it better if they kept the fossils being inspired by other kinds of pre-historic animals, as there are enough normal, non-fossil Pokémon that already look like dinosaurs. We definitely needed a proper carnosaur, though.

Couldn't agree less. I think that Hoenn's fossils are for more interesting designs, have more substance to the choice of which you take by how much difference there is between them and generally feel more standout amongst the fossil crowd. Unova/Kanto's designs are also much more solid in my eyes, and Rampardos gets major points for being one of the few fossils to have a reason for going extinct.
