Think it's about time we got something different from Grass, Fire, Water. Its gotten stale.

How about teaching kids a new type triangle? Everyone knows the Grass, Fire, Water but there's other triangles which when known would help kids learn.

Just bored of Red, Blue, and Green all the time.

Psychic, Dark and Fight would be a nice change, even though it's not a perfect triangle, not to mention they sort of did it with gen 6.

I wouldn't mind if it wasn't a an actual triangle,
like Ice, Electric and Fire (basic RPG elements)
or Ground, Flying, Water (giving the player a HM user, or a theme of land, sea and air)

When I think about it though a game's going to have new fire, grass and water types anyway and they might as well arrange it so they get some focus.

No other type triangle would really work. There's only three other true triangles, but two of those fail to be neutral against Normal type and the exception of "Ground > Poison > Grass > Ground" ends up still having Grass. And while it's more or less lost its importance at this point, in addition to being made silly thanks to every Water type having an Ice move because fuck you, there's also the argument to be made the three starter types are all resisted by Dragon.

Because Normal is the basic type. Normal types generally act as balanced members for the early game where you don't have to worry about weaknesses outside of Fighting but aren't getting any reward for the lack of risk since there's nothing they excel against. This helps reinforce the type triangle and effectiveness in general by highlighting how much of a difference they make, while granting newer players a clutch against their rival for the fights where their starter gets blasted by the rival's super effective starter. Ruining the Normal type's dynamic right out of the gate with Rock/Flying/Fighting for example is poor design.

Get this: Psychic, Fighting and Dark starters.

The Psychic type starter is a very fast bulky pokemon with shit offensive stats but instead is status move focused so it can stall out most pokemon and encore/disable to punish those that try to set up and beat opposing stallmons.

Design is a big ball of pink fur with cute eyes and a tongue poking out. Its brimming with psychic energy so the fur stands on end as of it was static. This pokemon has a tendency to get too excited from its psychic energy and spontaneously explode.

The Fighting type is a fast, frail special attacker that focuses on mental attacks and learns beamspam coverage moves. It gets a signature move that targets the opponent's lower defensive stat.

Design for this pokemon is a chimpanzee wearing a bamboo hat and kung fu robes that attacks by opening a scroll that beams shoot out of.

The dark type is a bulky, and powerful prediction pokemon. It gains 1 stage of attack by successfully pulling off snatch, sucker punch, focus punch, or pursuit trapping. It also learns stuff like counter, mirror and magic coat.

Its based off the devil and doesnt seem to belong in the pokemon world, its form shifts and changes constantly and it grows its arm into a huge fist or pulls out a giant mallet from nowhere when attacking.

Grass is also immune to powder moves, and Fire is immune to burns.

I guess in order to have a perfect triangle the other types have to do that too.
