ya'll realize that the odds are still the same as gen 6/7 right? the encounter rates are still slower than some other methods, like horde hunting, which is why some hunters try and speed things up by entering/exiting areas, and even that is going to be much slower than spawning hordes. There's only a tiny handful of places in the game (Viridian Forest, for example) where you can get a fast enough spawn rate that it feels blatantly faster to find shinies than in other games.
You're also required to get a chain of 31 to reach the highest odds, as opposed to something like friend safari's or Ultra Wormholes where you have really high odds from the get-go.
As someone who is a long-time hunter, I can tell you that I have had really fast hunts in LGPE, but also a couple that took a frustrating amount of time, longer than hunts I have had in previous games. Hell, a couple of LGPE took longer than my SR's Gen 2 starter, although I obviously got really lucky with that one coming so soon in the first place.
