I love triple battles.

Back in BW I had a trick room team that won all but a few battles. The mons weren’t IV’d or EV’d or anything.

A Telepathy Musharna on the left, Snorlax in the middle and on the right, Dusknoir.

Musharna would set trick room, Dusknoir just hit something with some coverage moves. But Snorlax, came from the Winner’s Path Pokéwalker route. Selfdestruct. Normal gem. Most opponents left on the first turn.

They were likely removed for crashing the old 3DS models in Gen 7.

Gen 7 already forced the originals 3DS models to boot into a special mode to clear up memory so higher res player models with mild animation being added to the field alongside 6 HD Pokémon models combined with their incompetence and a system meant to do 240p... That almost certainly didn't go down well.

But yes, Rotation battles were my favorite of all the methods. Sometimes it ended up with boost spamming (Evasion in particular) but that was a worthwhile trade off for the better mind games and, in turn, prediction it allowed.

Fair. After all, battle royal runs like shit too. Having player models present was a mistake.

Rotation battles always seemed neat, but I never got a chance to play it. Having 12 moves you can use at any moment but having to consider which of the three Pokemon you'll actually hit seemed like an interesting dynamic.

Triple was my all-time favourite battle format. I loved it.

reminder that sun and moon added the character model for both you the pc and your opponent(s) to the battle screen, and that triple/rotation were likely axed because that led to too many hi res models on screen at once

I thought triple battles were ultra-gimmicky and annoying. I'd wish they'd spend more time properly implementing double battles into single player rather than keep introducing new battle types that only get a handful of battles in-game each.

It's because GF are a bunch of lazy faggots. They only wanted to have to render pokemon models once for the next decade or more, so the 3DS games get super high poly models that bring the system to its knees, even though all the detail is completely wasted when the screen is 240p and has flat shading anyway.

IMO it'd be much cooler if we had the option to take on the gyms at E4 as either singles or doubles, with you getting to pick one when you first enter the gym and talk to the guy that's always there. And based on your pick, all gym/E4 trainers would have modified teams designed for either singles or doubles.

Something like that would be a relatively simple way of just making doubles important in a mainline game for once, as well as add replayability for players who might want to go through the game twice, once focusing on singles and once focusing on doubles or whatever.

and if people had the option to play all the important battles as either singles or doubles, they could instead choose to stick with singles. It's a win-win for the player by getting to pick what you want. The only reason this won't happen is because programming is difficult and god forbid Gamefreak have to design a second moveset for doubles. prease understandu.

A good chunk of GS' staff was absorbed into GameFreak awhile ago and what's left of them are the guys making the Denpa Men games, but naturally the ones in GameFreak aren't getting any jobs of value for a long, long, long, LONG time until Masuda and all the other elders of GameFreak die out due to Japanese Work Culture's raging hardon for seniority.
But by then they'll likely be just as jaded and out of touch, so it doesn't matter.

The problem is a company doesn't need to put any effort in when they have something they know will print money no matter what. Whether consciously or subconsciously, the quality always drops when this happens. Another example would be Bethesda releasing shittier and shittier products because they keep selling like hotcakes no matter what, and they needed to get as lazy and complacent as with Fallout 76 to finally get a backlash en masse.

And the problem is pokemon will NEVER EVER not sell well. So we're stuck in an endless loop of GF constantly pushing the boundaries on how lazy they can be with the games
