What should his team be?

Consider it must be parallel to Maxie's, so every water Pokémon you add must have a fire counterpart. Same if you add stuff like Muk and Weezing.

In all fairness, in ORAS they do have Muk (Archie) and Weezing (Maxie). Too bad everything just has level up moves. I remember sending in Aggron against Archie's Muk, which can't hurt it, and he switched in Sharpedo which died to an Earthquake and didn't even get to Mega Evolve.

It's pretty common in the old generations, and in general opponent movesets are made so that even the stupidest player can win.
It's why boss Pokemon that have good movesets (like Whitney's Miltank) are so memorable.

Was not lazy, it was intentional. ORAS Archie suffers the same thing, even though Sharpedo learns different moves. They just gave Sharpedo the 4 moves it learns by level up before you would face it.

Platinum is literally the only game with challenging leaders/bosses, and unfortunately, the gen 4 AI is garbage and they will just spam Earthquake on a pokemon with levitate and other dumb shit.

No that's gen 5, gen 4's AI is the one that stops doing that after the first time it tries it. It's still dumb but it's better than every other gen's AI.

like imagine the complicated programming and coding to create actual teams of at least 4 mons with sets with the use of tms, egg moves and stab attacks or strategies instead of level up movesets

also body slam was tutor, hardly a valid option, mightyena is an eternal shitmon where even linoone was stronger with headbutt and slash

the problem is their BST compared to their aces, even with a level 3 difference they'd be still significatly stronger than the rest of the team aside from maybe crobat's let's say confuse ray + bite + poison hax

Why couldn't they both have had an extra Pokemon? FFS Archie really needed a Crawdaunt, so in that case you give Maxie something like a Claydol - that way you have the dark/psychic thing to parallel.

The only point I can think of is the big fighting weakness that Mega Blaze in particular could tear through (balancing around Megas be a chore). Offensive toxic stall crobat is an interesting choice.
