Although I also found the pacing for the story to be pretty bad and its intriguing (to me anyway) concepts (Ultra Beasts, Alolan culture in terms of trials, a villain that finally isn't cartoonishly outlandish, a Pokemon created in the image of Arceus, etc.) were executed fairly shallowly, but then, those are par for the course in Pokemon's story-telling - deep prospects, shallow execution. But overall I thought it was a richly detailed world-setting, simply, bogged down by a confusion over the attention-span of its also confused intended audience.
