The English Tamagotchi Twitter account has been teasing the possibility of a western release, but there's nothing concrete yet.
I got a preorder from a known Tamagotchi store that works out of Japan, and was promised a refund if they can't secure them for me within three days of the release date. So I just have my fingers crossed.

That's kind of surprising. I love both, and frankly Eevee is the best Pokemon to be on a Tamagotchi because of its branching evolutions.

Me and my brother used to have lot's of Tamagotchi's we also had a Yoda Tama, and Angel Tamagotchi. Sometimes my brother switched the covers by screwing them appart. If I can find an Eevee somewhere cheap-ish I will get it for sure for both of us.

I liked Tamagotchi growing up, but despite the huge improvements to the gameplay nu-tamagotchi designs are unironally soulless. This Eevee one is fine if you love Eevee (sexually or otherwise), but I’d rather just play one of my old Tamas, since it looks like it just has the simple gameplay again.

Most of the new characters from the colour era onwards have the same base body shape. Some of them look relatively original, but most of those that do are children or teens.

That's primarily because the color-screen Tamagotchis don't have the same hardware restrictions as the original pets, and Bandai's been pushing for the brand to be more girl-focused and cute. The sprites were only 16x16 so they had to have very simple shapes yet still be expressive and dynamic. You could tell just from certain features if you had a good or bad character. That carried over in the 2004 reboot, but once color screen Tamagotchis became the norm and the anime and Tama iD gave us Lovelitchi, all of the new heavily-promoted female characters introduced since have just been clones of her.

It's not necessarily laziness, it's trying to maximize profit for their brand, and for them, it was more profitable to have Tamagotchi as girl-centric than gender-neutral. With the reintroduction and popularity of the original toys coming back though, we may still see some change yet.

I collect Digimon virtual pets, and I was super pumped about this dumb fucking thing, but then I forgot about it during the apparent 15 minute window I had to order one, so I guess I'm retarded. Hoping for a second wave or a western release, otherwise it's to scalpers I go I guess.

at least tamagotchis have color screens now. bandai still hasn't made a digimon v-pet with a color screen. the closest thing was the xros loader, but that's not really a v-pet, it's focused entirely on battles instead of raising.
