I'm leaning towards HG/SS. All of the best aspects of Gen 2 (solid region, huge postgame, acceptable difficulty) with Gen 4's improved mechanics. ORAS is pretty good too but they made the games way too easy.

Platinum is a much more polished D/P, where the slowness issue has been almost completely fixed.
Really that's all it takes for the game to allow you to actually appreciate gen 4 for what it is, which is probably the best gen.

Distribution is made a bit better with things like Safari Zone, let you get almost all of the Johto mons from Kanto earlier, even Larvitar.

Trainers are hit and miss, true. But at least it actually includes things like trainer and Gym Leader rematches.

It was nice but what gives if they removed the changes for Teddiursa/Phanpy/Sneasel and the odd egg? Why would you lose your time to train/catch Teddiursa/Phanpy when you can get them on the Victory road just after?
And Larvitar might as well be fucking nothing since it won't evolve before Kanto thanks to the unchanged evolution level/shit level curve, in general you can't really evolve some of them before postgame.

They even fucking added Houndour at the Safari Zone and the Pokewalker BUT it's still postgame only...WHAT THE FUCK is their problem, really?
Shit like Remoraid still being lategame is really baffling.

You can't tell me this game is polished or that they pay attention to details, THEY KNOW they're doing something bad and could do something better yet they're doing it anyway because FUCK YOU.

Yeah Game Freak made a few mistakes with HG/SS but I think the pros outweigh the cons. They added a lot of cool stuff to the game like the Battle Frontier, Safari Zone, Pokeathlon, and the follower pokemon.

Emerald,which i have a personal bias i won't lie, and would be my personal vote. But can concede that the big bads are pretty meh.

And BW2 for its AMAZING amount of content, i find the pokemon i really want to play the game with i can't get until the last 1/4 of the game, but is a very strong contender.

played gen 1 and 2. you go to rock zone all trainers use rock or fire thats the place for your water or plant pokemon. you go to forest thats the place for your anti bug pokemon. surfing you encounter water trainers. this idea is brick dumb.

I lost my Lickilicky to the Gyarados/Raichu battle on the fog route in my current Nuzlocke. Too many misses and not enough mons that could tank a mix of phys/special base 90+ STAB hits. It's such bullshit because of how useless Gen IV defog is.
