>>37245374Volcanion and Magearna being interesting characters doesn't save the movie because the humans are arguably worse than in any other Kalos film. The battles are poorly written, as bad as Hoopa. There's no tension or gravitas when anyone fights, it's acrobatics, flashy attacks, and parries. The fleeing ship plot device has been used in 5 previous Pokemon movies and it got really fucking old.
At least in the Diancie movie, if Oblivion Wing hits you, you die. Nobody died in Volcanion except the villain who only croaked after he wasn't needed anymore.
