>>37245413Gyarados is one of my favourite mons, and I love the mega. Its model is damn huge in LGPE, and the mega just gets bigger. The spines/fins make it look even more imposing, and the red accents along its body match up perfectly with a great ball.
IMO LGPE did an amazing job of making Gyarados look as it should than even the stadium games. The model is huge, the camera angles make it look gigantic and genuinely intimidating when fighting against it, and its face in particular has never looked better.
Its mega is top tier in LGPE competitive, which is notable not just because of the dominance of Psychic-types and dearth of Dark-types, but because the lack of held items makes pretty much every mega a direct upgrade. It's fucking ridiculous that Life Orb Latios renders Mega Latios obsolete, to the point that it was basically DOA. It's just another example of how the games' slowly-accrued bloat has fucked up the balance, and I appreciate how LGPE attempted to fix it by wiping the slate clean and doing away with it all. Now, a mega's only disadvantage is the single-slot limitation. It's neat because the removal of held items has created a gap between normal mons and megas, where they exist in balance, usage, and cyclical meta shifts separately from normal mons. They don't have to compete or be compared to normal mons anymore, which makes them a more fully-realized mechanic than ever before.
How the hell did this post about Gyarados turn into an essay? I'm tired and was about to go to bed when I saw this thread, so maybe I shouldn't post when tired like this.
