What game should I get?

Hello /vp/.

I missed out on the last two games AKA all Gen VII because I was having a rough time financially speaking. Now I'm back on track and was wondering wether I should get S/M or US/UM as my first Gen VII game and I'm looking for some opinions on both of them.

PD: Is switching from a 3DS to a New 3DS worth it?
