Let's talk about what we want from Gen 8.
I think it might be nice if they keep the ball throwing mechanic from LGPE, except make it so you have to actually fight the wild pokémon and weaken it before you can catch it.

I'd like a another battle system. One a focuses more on team play whether it be multiple pokemon or just the trainer and pokemon co-op.

Difficulty settings. It doesn't have to be anyhting too ambitious, just raise some levels and tweak a few movesets.
I'd also like to see GF adding some ways to make the gameplay more strategy-based. I think a double battle campaign mode woul dbe awesome.

As long as it has all the battle mechanics back and more I'm fine. Without good battle mechanics for VGC Pokémon is just an rpg for 6 year olds.

Would a Xenoblade-like battle system work? With auto attacking, special techniques with cooldowns, swapping Blades often, stacking up combos and effects and building up super powerful attacks. Not to mention the whole 'enemy monsters wandering around, rare stronger monsters laying there, monsters joining and leaving the fight, etc' thing.
Seems perfect to me.
