The biggest problem with AG is that whoever was writing it had no fucking idea how to write good battles. For all the shit people give BW and SM, the battles are at least well-paced. Every important battle in AG, including May's contests, are a fucking mess. Even the battles that people consider the best in the generation, like Charizard vs Articuno, are only "good" because it's Charizard fighting an Articuno.
