I wouldn't be surprised if they did just to explain why Melmetal suddenly appeared again after the 3000 years. As long as they don't make the same mistakes they did with Johto and Kanto.

DiaPer are the only primary games that gave Gym Leader and Elite 4 pokemon held items
They kept key features from the previous gen as well instead of removing, like gen 3 did with day/night, gen 5 with contests, berry growing etc

They weren't good, but they were okay. They definitely could have been better. I'm saying this as a guy who still goes back to play them and previous gens because for some reason I can't force myself to finish Moon/Ultra Sun.

i thought they were overall enjoyable but I like how less grindy they are. The poor post game is a definite negative though and there are too many "rivals"
