Why didn't they update the locations to make better use of the 3D environments and fully-directional movement? Why do the rock cliffs and patches of green vs light-green grass paths have zig zags instead of there being any smooth transitions or diagonals anywhere?
And hell, why the fuck are there loading screens where before you could zip from route to town to route without being interrupted whatsoever?
>>37285206Because Kanto was designed for gameboy and so the routes were incredibly simplistic. But rather than totally overhauling the region of Kanto for full 3D, they just do a tile-for-tile retread. Presumably because it's easier and they don't need to worry about designing anything. Same reason it's a lot easier to trace a picture than draw a new one.
