And while I can use all my singles-oriented pokemon reasonably well in in-game doubles matches, the same doesn't apply in reverse, and most of the stuff for doubles straight-up cannot be used at all in standard play.
The only time they had the balls to actually go all-in with doubles was with the colosseum games, and those weren't even developed by Gamefreak.
IMO what they should do is allow the player to choose a game mode at the beginning of the game, where all battles will either be singles or doubles, and the teams of NPCs will alter depending on which is selected. Of course that'd actually take a modicum of e f f o r t on gamefreak's part, so it'll never happen.
