However, the issues Lysandre embodies (scarcity and the destruction of natural habitats for human expansion) are either not seen or completely antithetical to the message the series has developed over time that strikes a balance between civilization and nature. For someone described as being charismatic, he was giving off some pretty clear extremist vibes (though that could be forgiven for the fact GF had to make the villain obvious enough for kids to go "I knew it!" when he turned out to be evil) and overall he didn't seem very intelligent, either. >>37287848 said, he obviously only wanted people who contributed to the world joining Flare and thus imposed the entry fee, but generally the people with that kind of money to casually drop on entering an exclusive club are either second-generation money or people whose businesses probably rose to the top through not-all-too-altruistic means. In other words, the very people who take advantage of others that he claimed to hate. Overall that part just seemed very narrow-sighed of him, as he seemed to believe that all self-made businesspeople were of the same moral stock as himself.
He could have been a great villain, were he put in the hands of better writers than whoever wrote X and Y.
