Gen 1: Being the first
Gen 2: Both legendaries catchable, most content with the two regions.
Gen 3: Best starters. Fug.
Gen 4: Best region and music
Gen 5: Best villains, story and gameplay.
Gen 6: Online being slightly less shit than the rest.
Gen 7: Best NPCs and character designs. A decent attempt at changing up the formula.

Gen 6 and 7 both have pretty solid mon distribution as well. Some of the best. Though I'm not sure which one I prefer in that regard. Probably Gen 7 because the mons introduced in that gen are better than the ones added in Gen 6.

Gen 1: The anime for gen 1 was really good
Gen 2: Having an entire other region for a post-game, extra points for HGSS having a battle frontier
>Gen 3: Best new pokemon introduced in a generation (Best starter trio, best legendaries, best pseudo-legendaries, etc.)

>Gen 5: Best story and music, B2W2 are some of the best pokemon games introduced to-date

Not OP, and agree that Gen 4 is the best gen. But those reasons OP gave aren't the reasons why it's good. They're the weaker points of that gen if anything. Just because it's your favourite doesn't mean it's perfect and free from any criticism. That just makes you a tard.

People hate gen 3, even though its the most balanced experience and also can be a challenge if you want it to be. Best distribution of cross generation pokemon, trainer rematches, berry farming, best breeding, nice post game, great music, battle frontier, last gen to have a well designed roster. It really all went down hill after gen 3, slowly.

Gen 5 had bad gameplay because of the extreme linearity, and the story kept getting in the way.
The best gameplay is gen 4 and best story is gen 1.

How could anyone think Gen 3 has the best starters or Gen 4 has the best pokemon? Fuck off with that shit. Gen 4 is an ugly bunch of fuckers, it's the gen that gave us Ryperior and Magmortor. Gen 3's starters aren't anywhere near Gen 1 or 2.

What bothers me is that they all fit into every single generic anime character trope. There's nothing surprising about any of their respective development. From the edgy guy that retains his cool attitude while warming up to the player, to the shy girl that becomes slightly less shy, to the happy go lucky friend that realizes he's gotta be serious every once in a while.

LGPE does have the best graphics though at the consoles native resolution. At much as I like the style of SM, it looks pretty shitty at 240p.
The main issue with LGPE is how those graphics are used. Kanto has a shit layout, and doesn't really work that well with how the game works mechanically.
