Battling's way too much of a part of the series to ditch it, but I definitely wish there was more content that explored the whole collecting/research/virtual pet parts of the series that are currently pretty half-assed. Give me a real RPG or something.

I don't really entirely disagree, but the collecting aspect didn't have as much purpose without gyms and eventually PVP to show them off that a lot of my GOnad bros were pretty excited about.

I just don't really think it needs to be totally shitcanned to bring out other parts of the franchise. So much of this shit can easily coexist together in a logical way.

I find it tedious too, it's just so poorly executed in the 3D generations. Terrible animation and shallow mechanics that have really aged like shit.

But I think it needs to be overhauled rather than minimized, I've still had a lot of pretty comfy experiences and found favorites through battling, enough to make it worth it.

Battling is just a motivation for the catching, collecting and completing the dex is the real "core" of things and almost always the reason you're sent out on your adventure to begin with, not just some stupid "I wanna be the strongest trainer ever" bullshit.
