In case it wasn't obvious enough, the pokeball plus bundles of the game are getting discounted there like whoa, meaning they didn't sell as expected and they just wanna get rid of any unsold stock ASAP:

Of course Let's Go underperformed in Japan. Japan doesn't have a big Kantoboner like 'Murica does. More than half of LGPE sales came from Murica. More than half of Stadium sales came from Murica. More than half of Gen I sales came from Murica.

In Japan. It's one of the best selling in the US, only surpassed by RBY and GSC.
This isn't surprising though. GO is not that popular in Japan, it is a burger phenomenon, and LGPE had no real audience in Japan since they don't care for GO.

Bullshit. Silph Road talks about this from time to time. There are players there, and they show up for raids, but it's night and day compared to the USA. Niantic doesn't report active daily users by region because they don't want to create a hivemind where burgers stop playing because they think it's less popular in Japan.

I still find weird Japan isn't that nostalgic of gen one considering other popular series like Dragon Quest pretty much advertise themselves with it.

Japan actually really likes the latter Gens, and their Pokemon too.

You don't have DQ fans dismissing everything after the first 1-2 games, they generally celebrate the whole series and the same is the case with Pokemon in Japan.
By Switch's standards Let's Go is a very weak game, you don't need to be a hardcore Pokemon fan to see how barebones it is.

Isn't Tsutaya a secondhand and rental dealer? Do they even sell new games?

I was in Japan a few months ago and although I saw Tsutaya shops often most of the time they were rental-only.

They're not quite as common as they used to be but every city still has them and they still play daily because that's what they've been conditioned to do.

Based nips are actually very brand loyal. Fads are also a thing there but interest doesn't disappear completely once the fad's passed. Series that are popular tend to stay popular for a very long time (like Fate and Evangelion). They don't die for decades and then flare up suddenly because people like seeing the things they enjoy evolve into something better rather than regress back to what it was on day 1.

You don't even need to like Pokemon to see how shitty it is, a co-worker of mine had brought in his Switch to work and was playing LGP, another who had only played gen 1 during the fad asked why there was no wild battles and that it looked shitty. Even normies can dislike the game.
