The problem is that Gyarados is actually good at sweeping.

All Wishiwashi can do is sweep in Trick Room or die thanks to its horrible stat distribution.

Except that Gyarados is better because Wishiwashi came from the pokemon region of Terrible Stat Distributions and not Kanto.

I think one of the Wishiwashi's you fight before the trial is uncatchable but the other one isn't. No idea if it was patched or anything but I couldn't catch one of them no matter how hard I tried where getting the other one was easy. Go figure. It's a good way to get Wishiwashi too because they're fairly uncommon.
