Blue was so much better.
It made Bulbasaur also unique to have all Red-Blue-Green colors as well.

It's strange that Ivysaur and Venusaur are still Blue in the games but Bulbasaur was changed to Green in Gen 6

Um, no. That art is from the Japanese release of Blue/western release of Red/Blue. His original (and better) Red/Green art looks like this.
