There probably isn't a single person on earth who naturally ran into Munchlax on their first playthrough, nor is there anyone who legitimately hunted for Munchlax without hacking to see what their Secret ID is in order to calculate which tree can house Munchlax.
The people who got Munchlax without being severely autistic were the ones who just transferred over their Snorlax from FRLG and bred them. End of story.

Incineroar seems like an outlier of that bunch, like its popularity was forced on account of it having a signature move worth a damn ingame and having the VGC Special as its hidden ability. I don't hate the mon but I really don't see it being a big deal in the future.

I honestly hate the fact that they prop up a single one of a starter trio so much harder than the others. I know some starters are naturally going to be more popular but when they got stuff like an ability that gives every move essentially a +50% boost in power it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, even if i dont dislike Greninja. Mostly due to the fact that before the game even comes out they're pushing for one starter over the rest.

Incineroar has been immortalized by Smash and so won't be forgotten. Much like how Jigglypuff is irrelevant in the Pokemon series, and Greninja has been irrelevant since Gen 6 ended, but they're still known because of Smash.

I feel like people who're saying Incineroar are ignoring how popular it has become, for better or for worse, I still saw a small but noticeable uptick of people coming around to it even pre-Smash. No doubt it'll drop off in active merchandising when Alola pandering ends, but then it'll be Greninja-tier in having a lot of stuff around it's still featured in like the 20th movie, some prominent anime episodes of its season, VGC, and of course the big one of Smash itself.

I will open a can of worms in the thread and admit Decidueye really dropped from being the fan-favorite starter at the beginning of the gen to the joke it is now. Not Rowlet, Decidueye. Bad stats and a lack of moves even with USUM, and the whole feather-finger/curtain-wings/from knife-tosser-to-archer realization really hurt it.

I have no idea if Primarina'll really be remembered or not, meanwhile.

They don't. Once your on the roster and the game comes out all the hype ends. If your lucky you get a few memes attached to you but other than that the only attention you get is if your a low tier character and you manage to place well in a tournament or if you managed to get axed from the roster after being previously playable.

No one's gives a shit about Young Link, Pichu, and the brawl veterans being back now. They don't care about Ridely, Daisy, or Chrom despite years of memes behind them. They don't give a crap about any of the new characters all they care about now is Waluigi and that Joker guy and if/once they become playable they'll be an after though too.

It sickens me because I love smash but the community is terrible. All they care about is who gets in the game as a playable character, anything less is considred trash, and once they get fulfilled they act likes it's nothing, they're just another fighter. Meanwhile fan is on to the next character they want in.
