Because for the most part they were original designs instead of just cartoon animals. If they did Kangaskhan or Scyther now they would just be a generic kangaroo and mantis instead of an interesting original looking creature.

Or look at Bulbasaur. People still argue what exactly it's based on. If it were a current gen Pokemon it would just be a cartoon frog.

What the fuck, this could be said about any generation? And every generation also has stupidly generic designs. Rattata is a rat and Zigzagoon is a raccoon. Psyduck is a duck and Ducklett is a duck.

If they did Kangaskhan or Scyther now they would probably look less like animals they are based on, you drip.

No it couldn't.

The only only animal based Gen VII Pokemon that aren't just an anime versions of a real life creature are Comfey and Poipole. Meanwhile you can't make heads or tails of what precisely Bulbasaur, Nidos, Clefairy, Magmar, Slowpoke, Alakazam, or Chansey are supposed to be.

This thread is some cherry picking bullshit. Every generation has Pokemon that you know exactly what they're based on and every generation has Pokemon that are more monster-like and a mix of different concepts. If anything can be learnt from this thread it's that Gen 1 is pretty fucking boring.

If your annoyed by it's bloated appearance, you haven't been looking at enough jellyfish

So does Jellicent. The squid elements are just more obvious on Tentacruel's design(how does it look like an octopus btw? Octopi's mantles aren't cap-like compared to a squid's)
