Beating Stadium 2 (both round 1 and round 2) using only rental pokémons without using Wobbuffet

Done Prime Cup and Castle with my own Pokemon, Poke Cup was very dumb to prep for and I wasn't very into breeding at the time so Little Cup Rentals was forced onto me into those that was fucking brutal. Challenge Cup was so fucking fun though and I feel the best of the Stadium options.

Little Cup is easy with the rental Abra, even on Round 2. Prime Cup is possibly doable, but Poke Cup Round 2 is extremely difficult even with ingame Pokemon.

I know the gameboy cartridges work off of the internal batteries and eventually die without replacements but I'm pretty sure stadium uses something like a usb (can't remember what that type of data storage is called) but theoretically my gen 1/2 mons should still be on my copy of it right?

Rentals are all great, no need to stumble through the GB games in Japanese. Aesthetics are god tier, feels like you're participating in a real tournament - which was the point of the game in the first place. Pokemon are a lot more animated and vocal, taunting each other constantly.

There is none beyond hipster cred. At most I think the jap versions had the Pikachu surf tutor in the original stadium and not their 2 and it being added to their 2 is an international only thing.

I was somewhat kidding - the presentation in Stadium JP is really top notch, and the missing Pokemon aren't too big a deal since all the useful ones are in the game, but Stadium and Stadium 2 are still better overall.

The original cartridges should still be fine. Crystal is probably kill, maybe Gold and Silver (or atleast the day/night cycle is fucked). But yeah, N64 cartridges use a different way to save and maintain data. But you aren't safe.

My copy of Stadium 2 still has its save file intact when I completed it when it came out. My GB/GBC copies of my games did need a replacement battery however I did transfer my mons to Stadium 2 at some point beforehand thankfully enough.

Ehh, the utility of the Lab in NA Stadium 2 alone is enough for me to stick with that. Not only that but Dodrio Tower's 400% speed for RBY and 300% speed for GSC allows you to quickly build teams though the game cucks you for GSC (not RBY) by needing to clear the game for the speed up feature and needing 150 owned in your Dex to use the N64 Lab boxes.

Oh yeah, I remember seeing this. Really nothing about the Pokemon have changed... but the Player Trainer and CPU Trainer pics are definitely superior and would've been nice to see added to the international release.

Well yeah, they kept reusing the same models through the Wii days. They aren't going to change all that many going from Stadium JP to Stadium.

Though they did update a lot of the ingame dex-only models. Squirtle was one that got overhauled, IIRC.

Because it was developed by a developer that actually cares about quality control and about what the players might be appreciative to have like fixing glitches on moves or help creating teams.

It also includes the ability to create custom rulesets (at least in Stadium 2) so you could choose what Pokemon should be banned, what clauses should be enabled, and if the fights should be done as 3v3 or 6v6. It's like Smogon's fucking wet dream. Also lets you choose what Stadiums you would like to fight in which was very cool and a travesty that Game Freak doesn't follow suit.
